Mercedes Creates Unique SLS AMG and G55 AMG for Dubai Motor Show

Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG "Desert Gold"+ G55AMG "Edition79"

We’re told that, after the U.S., Germany, and Japan, the fourth-highest number of AMG products is sold to countries within the Persian Gulf. In a nod to those buyers, Mercedes chose to unveil two primped AMG vehicles at this year’s Dubai Motor Show.

On show is an SLS AMG that’s been sprayed in what the company calls AMG Desert Gold, a striking matte-gold paint, that’s offset by glossy black accents. The SLS rides on wheels painted black with a gold lip stripe. Inside are the typical bucket seats and carbon-fiber trim of regular SLS models. AMG says that, if there’s enough interest in the paint, the color could make its way to the SLS order form alongside the nine paint schemes currently offered.

Also on display is the G55 AMG Edition 79—the name pays homage to the G-wagen’s 1979 debut. The G-class, in all variants, is hugely popular throughout the Middle East. Key touches include the addition of “Designo Magno Alanite Grey” paint, a hue from the SLS AMG that’s not normally offered on the G-class, faux-carbon-fiber trim, a burly brush guard, 19-inch AMG wheels, and chrome grilles protecting the lights. Inside are special leather seats, carbon-fiber dress-up, and a “1 out of 79” logo on the center console.
